IT Pro Rating Price: £916.53 Company: Linksys Review Date: 30th Apr 2008 Verdict: Linksys delivers a well built 1U NAS appliance with a number of unusual features. The encryption and virtualisation capabilities increase its appeal to business users but we found performance to be comparatively poor and it's difficult to see how the high price tag can be justified.

Verdict: The ACE 4710 impressed us mightily. It compares favourably on price with the competition, the optional application acceleration and optimization features are very sophisticated and the icing on the cake are the virtual appliance capabilities, which make this solution unique.

Verdict: Despite issues with the multiple locations for management there is no doubt that there is a place for IPCheck in most datacentres. The main interface is simple and uncluttered and gives you the information you need in a screen that can be easily visually scanned.

Verdict: Mobile and remote workers can reap the benefits of WAN optimisation with a smart solution that's very easy to deploy. Our performance tests show what a difference the Steelhead Mobile can make, although this product is primarily aimed at existing users of Steelhead optimisation appliances.

Verdict: The hardware package could be more generous, but the Big-IP 6400 is a classy load balancing solution that's hot on network security and generally easy to configure, while F5's iRules offer plenty of customisation opportunities.

Verdict: Cisco delivers a smart wireless management and monitoring system which is easily deployed and can be upgraded with demand. We found the mapping facilities very effective and the accurate location tracking of rogue APs and RFID tags makes it highly versatile.

Verdict: The LoadMaster 2500 proves you don't have to pay a fortune for web server load balancing. It delivers a range of sophisticated features, is extremely easy to deploy and its low price makes it a very affordable option for SMBs.

Verdict: LeftHand Networks shows off everything that's good about iSCSI with a virtual storage solution that includes a quality range of features in the base product, easy management and almost limitless expansion possibilities.

Verdict: Unlike a lot of security products, this is part of a coherent solution that can be deployed piecemeal. The fact that you can force all the clients to use the YGP is a major plus point. When added to the ability to turn every device into part of a huge distributed firewall, this becomes very attractive. What it needs, however, is applications to use that data, reporting engines to correlate the data and online tutorials and white papers to help users make the most of this.

Review Date: 20th Aug 2007
Verdict: Cisco's latest FC switch shows that SANs don't have to be expensive or complex to manage. The base price includes a lot of features other vendors would charge extra for and the port licensing scheme makes it highly flexible.
