Pipex and Nokia team up to drive WiMax adoption

Pipex Wireless and Nokia Siemens Networkstoday announced that they are joining forces to collaborate on WiMax infrastructure and services to increase the commercial availability of the technology in the UK.
Equipment requirements are currently being specified and the two companies, the latter of which became officially operational earlier this week, plan to engage in a pilot operation later this year.
Pipex, which is already pioneering WiMax usage trials in Milton Keynes and Warwick will make use of Nokia's equipment, services and networking know-how to bring the technology to more users around the country.
"As we reach the next stage of our business, we are looking to work with strategic partners that share our vision of offering customers a ground-breaking WiMax broadband experience," said Mike Read, chief executive of Pipex Wireless.
"[Pipex Wireless] is at the forefront of introducing high speed wireless broadband services powered by WiMax technology into the UK," said Ari Lehtoranta, head of radio access networks at Nokia Siemens Networks.
"Pipex Wireless brings expertise in internet, broadband and technology innovation and Nokia Siemens Networks' extensive experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining high quality networks globally will be invaluable to its future success."
