Fashion giant gives its network a makeover
By Maggie Holland,
The umbrella company behind big name fashion brands like Coast, Karen Millen, Oasis and Whistles has rolled out a new high-speed broadband network to enhance communications between its 650 stores in the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Mosaic Fashions believes the new communications infrastructure will enable it to more speedily exchange sales data, in addition to supporting its electronic point of sale (EPOS) systems and voice over IP (VoIP) requirements.
Ultimately, the retailer hopes that the new network, which it started work on in September last year, will result in a better customer experience by ensuring that store visitors are dealt with efficiently both through faster data transfer and greater knowledge sharing across the organisation.
The company opted to work with THUS and Vodat on the project, which will also support connectivity for remote and home workers.
"We decided to take a fresh approach to our network and to streamline communication between stores," said John Bovill, IT director at Mosaic Fashions.
"The speed of delivery of sales data, transactions and applications now means that each brand is more efficient in its working practices. Network installation started in September and we will start to see cost reductions on our VoIP calls in 2007. Throughout the relationship there has been a good marriage between Vodat and THUS, with both parties being highly professional in their management and delivery of the network.
"As the deployment matures we will extend to our stores in Ireland and Europe. The new network also provides us with the potential to offer video streaming, CCTV streaming and e-learning to our stores if we require this functionality in the future."
