C&W launches secured connectivity service
By Rene Millman,
Cable & Wireless has launched a new secure managed wireless access service to allow companies to protect their employees connection back to the office.
The new Secure Mobility managed service offers companies an "all inclusive" package that comprises of Wi-Fi, 3G and voice mobile network access with internet roaming to the workforce, on a fixed cost, per seat basis.
The wireless internet access will be available 75,000 hotspots worldwide, through a partnership with wireless connectivity aggregator iPass. Security-wise, the service uses Network Access Control (NAC) from Cisco to interrogate connections from any device attempting to connect to the network. It also automatically checks and updates the security provisions of the device attempting to gain access with firewall and software updates.
Once authenticated and connected, the user connects to the network through SSL VPN and data carried through remote and wireless connections is monitored through Network Admission Control (NAC).
The company said that the service allows organisations to get their workforce mobile without incurring additional security threats. It has also includes disaster recovery capability through the company's dual site resilience.
Tim Ryan, Global Roaming product manager for Security and Secure Mobility at Cable & Wireless said that mobility is increasingly critical for enterprise organisations.
"Customers now expect to conduct business through any device, at any time and from any location at home or abroad," he said. "Secure Mobility removes the remaining barriers for businesses to making this happen, namely the unknown costs associated with traditional access minutes, intermittent security and the complexity of managing a mobile workforce."
