Former head of Motorola device business resigns
By Benny Har-Even,
After a particularly poor year for the mobile phone company, Motorola has announced that Stu Reed, formerly president of Motorola's mobile devices business, has resigned from the company.
The departure follows a similar exit by Ed Zanderwho stepped down from his post as chief executive on 1 January and is residing as chairman of the company until May this year.
During Reed's tenure, Motorola suffered serious losses of revenue and market share, in particular to rivals Nokia and Samsung, while most of the headlines went to Apple with its iPhone.
Nevertheless, in its announcement, Motorola was positive towards Reed. "Mr. Reed and his team launched a number of key initiatives important to the mobile devices business that the company will continue to drive and expand upon," it said in a statement.
Greg Brown, president and chief executive of the company, added: "We appreciate Stu's many contributions to Motorola and wish him the best in the future."
