AMD announces new CIO
By Maggie Holland,
AMD yesterday announced that it has appointed former Dell executive Ahmed Mahmoud to the role of chief information officer (CIO).
In his new role, Mahmoud - who was previously vice president of IT at Dell - will be responsible for looking after the chip maker's global technology infrastructure and he will report directly to chief executive Hector Ruiz.
During his 13-year tenure at Dell, he spearheaded a range of transformational activities spanning the company's corporate computing, data warehousing, manufacturing, supply chain and virtual storefront operations.
"Ahmed's success using IT as a competitive differentiator to scale the business will help AMD tremendously as we expand our own infrastructure to best meet internal needs and better serve a growing customer base," said Dirk Meyer, president and chief operating officer at AMD. "His considerable talent and experience help ensure that we continue building a world-class IT network based on our own products and platforms - some of the most advanced, energy-efficient solutions on the market."
Before joining Dell, Mahmoud worked in a number of IT leadership and instruction roles at Eastman Kodak, The University of Houston, and Texas A&M University.
