The Perfume Shop gets into planning mode

The UK's largest specialist fragrance retailer is about to go live with new planning software, as part of a phased project to improve stock and merchandising control.

Retailer The Perfume Shop has signed a deal to implement Island Pacific's Planning Module that builds on productivity and efficiency benefits already gained as part of an ongoing stock and merchandising control project.

The system, which is will be used to reduce the manual planning time for its merchandising department, has been implemented in two phases: the Weekly Stock Sales & Intake (WSSI) went live in November 2007 and Line Planning will be live by June 2008, in time for the busy Christmas trading season.

The retailer wanted to develop a new merchandising system to support its planning and buying activities. Keen to move away from its previously manually intensive Microsoft Excel spreadsheet-based system, the software feeds data directly into its planning system. Prior to installing the Island Pacific Planning module, all data had to be transferred from the data warehouse system.

Alistair Cossins, The Perfume Shop systems manager said: "Our previous system would involve one or two days of someone's time each week inputting the relevant data. We were keen to develop an integrated and automated solution, which would create significant time and cost savings for the business. And, indeed this system has saved us somewhere in the region of two days per week."

He added that Planning module is providing the company with an intuitive system with which to better manage stock throughout its 166-store estate. "The fact that it has been custom configured from the ground up and tailored around our business has meant it provides a seamless tool for relevant teams to work with," added Cossins.

The vendor added that, through the use of the Planning module's alternate hierarchies, The Perfume Shop's warehouse planners and merchandise buyers can also view the same information in different ways to ensure appropriate stock levels in-store.
