Government can tackle IT disasters with common sense training

Specialist Firebrand Training launches its Government Computing Common Sense certification (GCCS) scheme in an effort to help state agencies stamp out IT stupidity.

APRIL FOOL!!!!!

While some common sense training wouldn't do any harm to certain government departments, such as HM Revenue and Customs, on this occasion the idea of a training course in IT common sense is nothing more than a gag.

Many thanks to Firebrand Training for working with us on setting this up this year's April Fool story.

Below is the original article that we published earlier this morning:

A new qualification for government employees aims to put an end to data breaches caused by human error.

The Government Computing Common Sense certification (GCCS) from Firebrand Training will set out the basic security considerations for all employees working with citizens' personal data.

Key areas of focus for the course include learning how to look after laptops when out of the office, locking offices and cars, how to send information securely to outside parties by using couriers, not sharing confidential data over the phone and why passwords need to be kept secret.

The Accelerated Learning pioneer hopes the course will stop to the onslaught of embarrassing data breaches currently flooding out of central Government departments.

"The recent data disasters across Government could all have been avoided by simple common sense," said Robert Chapman, chief executive of Firebrand Training. "This course will teach the basics to help put a stop to data breaches."
