Home Office signs new outsourcing deal
By Miya Knights,
The Home Office has signed a four-year outsourcing deal for an undisclosed sum to develop and support the information systems for the new Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) scheme and the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).
The information systems provided through the deal with provider, Logica will support the organisations' in their work to improve safeguards for children and vulnerable adults.
The ISA scheme was created as a result of the recommendations by the 2004 Bichard Inquiry. And the Logica-run systems will play an integral role in the process of vetting individuals working with children or vulnerable adults.
The Home Office said the scheme will use information from the systems to make consistent, efficient and transparent decisions about individuals employed to work with these vulnerable groups of society in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The contract covers the design, build, hosting and support of application services as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (SVG) Act 2006, with the aim of improving the efficiency of performing the necessary checks.
Logica will also provide data assurance and disaster recovery capability, with all security requirements directly complying with government information security standards for the protection of restricted and confidential information.
Adrian McAllister, ISA chief executive stated: "Our new Scheme is a vital component of the Government's ongoing programme of work to provide increased protection for children and vulnerable adults across the UK.
He said the outsourcer's previous public sector work was instrumental to it winning the deal. "Logica has a long-standing and in-depth knowledge and track-record in Justice and Home Affairs and has demonstrated a clear understanding of the ISA's requirements for this scheme," he added.
