IT pros want kids to follow their lead
By Nicole Kobie,
IT professionals are positive about their sector's prospects - so much so, that they'd recommend the field to their own children, new research has found.
A poll of a thousand such pros by the
IT Job Board and Barkers found that 75 per cent would recommend working in IT to a child. Another 69 per cent said their company's position in the market is secure, and seven out of ten expect a pay raise in the next year.
"The over-riding conclusion of the research is that the IT sector is perceived to be a rewarding industry in which to work," Alex Farrell, managing director of The IT Job Board, said in a statement.
Farrell added: "Despite the currently gloomy predictions, the IT sector also appears to be holding up well to the newly-tough economic climate - evidence that is backed up the increased number of applications to our site when compared to the same period last year."
The survey also found that 86 per cent of IT workers believe they will choose to change jobs in the next three years.
Respondents also said that a tech degree was not necessarily the way to go, with 52 per cent saying they didn't respect a fellow worker or boss just because they had a relevant degree.
