Intel has announced that its McAfee Mobile Security app is now available for free on the Android platform, as the firm continues to focus on end-to-end protection.
"Following our CES announcement, [we're] making our mobile security software efforts available free. They are available via App Stores and some of our resellers," Renee James, president at Intel said.
"We also have several new partnerships around our mobile management technology [including] AirWatch and Citrix."
The main focus of the McAfee app is to provide malware protection for Android devices without sucking up battery by using kernel-level security extensions.
User can set the CaptureCam feature to snap a picture of the person holding a device if there are multiple attempts to unlock it. The image, along with location, is then sent to the smartphone owner, helping to track down a lost or stolen device.
An SOS feature will also save the last location of a device before the battery runs out and the app will warn users when they are about to connect to unsecured Wi-Fi networks.
An iOS version is already available in the Apple App Store.
On the PC side, Intel announced Dell will be the first OEM to deploy the enterprise edition of its Management software security across its portfolio as it battles it out with HP and Lenovo for business customers.
