Intelligent security brought to the fore by HP

A padlock against a golden background to represent cyber security

HP has released two new security products that can help companies detect IT threats more easily through data analytics at its annual HP Protect enterprise security conference.

The first of these, ArcSight DNS Malware Analytics (DMA), helps organisations automate threat analysis data and, according to HP, can significantly slash monetary and resource overheads by reducing the amount of work IT professionals spend responding to false positives.

"The trend we're seeing it technology and security professionals struggling to make sense of the data that they are getting from existing solutions- they lack the ability to establish context and draw correlations" Tim Grieveson, HP's chief cyber and security strategist for EMEA, told IT Pro.

"All the products we are launching today are focused on analytics. They are algorithm based, not rule based, which means these professionals can get a much better understanding of their network security," he added.

In ArcSight DMA, this algorithm-based approach can detect new, unknown malware while reducing the number of false positives by up to a factor of 20 and unnecessary DNS data by up to a factor of 100 million, according to HP.

The company also launched Fortify Analytics, a new component of Fortify on Demand, which uses machine learning to process organisations' scan results across various applications and reduce the number of issues that require manual review.

Finally, the company introduced new enhancements to its Atalla and Security voltage products, which address PCI compliance with secure data capture, data de-identification and collaboration security. These new features include SecureMail eDiscovery, SecureData Payments 4.1, Cloud Access Security integration of Adallom with HP ArcSight, and HP Atalla IPC Express.

HP ArcSight DNS Malware Analytics will be available from 15 September, while Fortify analytics is available now as part of Fortify on Demand.
