    Google unveils mobile calendar

The search giant has extended the reach of its calendar application to mobile users so that people can access and update event-related data regardless of where they're located.

By Maggie Holland, 29 May 2007 at 11:48

Google has made its calendaring application, Google Calendar, available to the increasing number of users who need to access diary information on the move.

The offering, which doesn't require any special software to be downloaded, lets people with a web-enabled mobile view their calendar information just like they would using the standard desktop version, which was launched just over a year ago in April 2006.

The free online tool, which supports imported information from other calendar applications like Microsoft Outlook and Yahoo Calendar, can also be shared with other people so that users can keep track of joint events and look at what their colleagues, friends of family members are doing to aid planning. It also integrates easily with Gmail so that events mentioned in e-mail messages can easily be added to the calendar.

In addition, any changes made using the mobile version of the calendar are automatically synched when users next access the standard version and vice versa.

"We realise that more people in the world have mobile phones than have computers, and people take their cell phones with them everywhere," said Devesh Parekh, one of the Google Calendar team's software engineers, in a blog post.

"Since one of our main goals on the Calendar team is to make planning your events and maintaining your schedule as easy as possible, starting today, you can access your Google Calendar account from your cell phone! Just visit calendar.google.com from your phone, and you'll see your agenda of upcoming events, complete with details like date, time, location, description, and guest list."
