World's first security suite on a USB stick
By Rene Millman,
A security company has launched what it claimed was the world's first full security suite on a USB flash drive.
The flash drive is aimed at laptop users and road warriors. The manufacturers of the device, Yoggie Security Systems, said it offloaded all the main security functions, such as anti-virus and anti-spam, onto the USB device.
The USB unit is essentially a small Linux-based computer with 128MB of memory and a 520MHz Intel Pentium chip inside its small body.
The company claimed that the device offered "full corporate level internet protection from all types of hacking, virus, malware, worms and other attacks - both current and future - while boosting computer performance by saving CPU, memory and disk space."
When inserted into a USB port, the unit monitors all internet traffic, isolating the laptop's IP address and only revealing its own, The company said this created a physical barrier from incoming threats.
"The growing threat from internet borne attacks to computing devices and the negative user experience with heavy software security suites, that unacceptably slow their computers, has led us to develop the Yoggie Pico," said Shlomo Touboul, chief executive and founder of Yoggie Security Systems.
He said this concept of offloading and separating security functions was a "breakthrough" and offered users the "best of both worlds - in terms of both security and performance."
