IT Pro Rating Price: £655 - £4,209 depending on configuration Company: HP UK Review Date: 2nd May 2008 Verdict: HP's BladeSystem c-Class continues to set the bar. HP offers an extensive range of server and switch blades with some interesting storage options and excellent build quality. Management and monitoring facilities are far superior to the competition and the latest power control and metering tools could prove invaluable to data centres.

Verdict: Protecting your databases takes effort and there's no escape from that. It will obviously take investment of money, time and effort to install and learn software such as DbProtect, but once you've made the investment you'll be in a much better position to secure your valuable data.

Verdict: Fujitsu Siemens has been busy with its blade server as the BX600 S3 delivers plenty of new features including some unique quad-core Opteron server blade configurations and all offered at a very competitive price.

Review Date: 28th Feb 2008
Verdict: A monster of an OS platform, but one which is wrapped up with kid gloves with unprecedented handholding and support and management infrastructure. Without doubt, the best Windows Server release ever, offering unparalleled levels of capability and power.

Verdict: IBM delivers a very well built and nicely designed Opteron rack server. Remote management features are in abundance, storage and memory expansion potential is particularly good and it isn't a power hog either.

Review Date: 7th Jan 2008
Verdict: Viglen delivers a well built blade server with value high on the agenda. It's not as sophisticated as equivalent systems from HP and IBM but for your money you're getting a lot of hardware and the highest processing density currently on the market making this a very cost-effective alternative to standard rack servers.
IT Pro Rating:
Price: £279
Review Date: 27th Dec 2007
Verdict: This is a product that can be deployed by any company irrespective of its size and with almost no real computing knowledge. The price per replicated VM may put off some smaller companies that have just one or two servers but typically 8-10 VMs, though enterprise licensing is available.

Review Date: 10th Dec 2007
Verdict: Verdict: Fujitsu Siemens scores yet again with the first quad-core Xeon MP server to market and well ahead of its main rivals. The RX600 S4 sets a fine example as well as it delivers a quality specification for the price, remote server management sees a big improvement and it's easy on the utility supply.
IT Pro Rating:
Price: £8,710
Review Date: 19th Nov 2007
Verdict: NEC's new blade server scores very well on value and expansion capabilities and supports a reasonable range of Xeon server blades. Redundancy options are plentiful but build quality is unsophisticated and management and monitoring features aren't a patch of those offered by HP's BladeSystem c-Class.
IT Pro Rating:
Price: £3,449
Review Date: 8th Oct 2007
Verdict: The LoadMaster 2500 proves you don't have to pay a fortune for web server load balancing. It delivers a range of sophisticated features, is extremely easy to deploy and its low price makes it a very affordable option for SMBs.
