    HP unveils new storage blade

HP lifted the lid on its latest range of storage modules for its blade chassis with up to 876GB of direct attached Raid storage.

By Rene Millman, 2 Nov 2006 at 14:41

The new module fits inside the company's new C-class blade chassis, HP launched earlier this year. Each storage blade connects directly to the server blade, cutting out the backplane altogether. HP said this will cut up to 60 per cent from the total cost of ownership compared to SAN products.

The blade system offers companies increased server density over rack-based rivals and allows them to pick and choose storage and processing components to go inside the chassis.

The module is aimed at file servers as well as demanding applications such as video and audio streaming, databases and distributed systems.

The StorageWorks SB40c blade will be available mid-month with a starting price of $1,599.
