Linksys NSS6100

Linksys NSS6100

IT Pro Rating
Price: £916.53
Company: Linksys
Review Date: 30th Apr 2008
Verdict: Linksys delivers a well built 1U NAS appliance with a number of unusual features. The encryption and virtualisation capabilities increase its appeal to business users but we found performance to be comparatively poor and it's difficult to see how the high price tag can be justified.

Armari IG24T

Armari IG24T IT Pro Rating:
Price: £9,959 exc VAT
Review Date: 25th Mar 2008
Verdict: For sheer capacity there's little to touch Armari's network storage appliance, making the IG24T look particularly good value. The Open-E management interface has a few rough edges but it offers both iSCSI target and NAS share support and plenty more, including some very useful backup facilities.

Overland Storage REO 4500c

Overland Storage REO 4500c IT Pro Rating:
Price: £19,252 exc. VAT
Review Date: 14th Mar 2008
Verdict: The REO 4500c is a superb choice for D2D data backup and recovery operations. It's offered at a very competitive price and the data compression card increases capacity immensely, but Overland could do much better in the performance stakes.

EXCLUSIVE: Dell EqualLogic PS5000XV

EXCLUSIVE: Dell EqualLogic PS5000XV IT Pro Rating:
Price: £23,710
Review Date: 11th Mar 2008
Verdict: Dell's newly acquired EqualLogic family of appliances offers a quality range of IP SAN features and the PS5000XV has expansion and high performance at the top of the agenda.

Iomega StorCenter Pro NAS 450r

Iomega StorCenter Pro NAS 450r IT Pro Rating:
Price: £2,035
Review Date: 31st Jan 2008
Verdict: The asking price initially looks high but the 450r is endowed with a good hardware specification that delivers in the performance stakes. You won't find a better data protection and disaster recovery solution either at this price as Iomega includes some quality bundled backup software.

Quantum Scalar i2000 Tape Library

Quantum Scalar i2000 Tape Library IT Pro Rating:
Price: £40,600
Review Date: 14th Jan 2008
Verdict: The i2000 delivers an enterprise level tape library solution that looks reasonably good value and delivers a truly massive expansion potential, a quality range of remote management features and sophisticated diagnostics.

Plasmon UDO Archive Appliance

Plasmon UDO Archive Appliance IT Pro Rating:
Price: £12,450
Review Date: 26th Nov 2007
Verdict: Network performance may not be a strong point but Plasmon's latest UDO appliances make light work of compliant archiving, are simple to deploy and have a far lower environmental impact than costly hard disk arrays for long term storage.

Quantum DXi5500

Quantum DXi5500 IT Pro Rating:
Price: £53,397
Review Date: 18th Oct 2007
Verdict: This is an easy to install, easy to configure device ideally suited to the pressures of a busy data centre. VTL is fast becoming a must have for a lot of data centres and the build quality and ease of use makes this attractive.

LeftHand Networks SAN/iQ 7

LeftHand Networks SAN/iQ 7 IT Pro Rating:
Price: £20,000
Review Date: 27th Sep 2007
Verdict: LeftHand Networks shows off everything that's good about iSCSI with a virtual storage solution that includes a quality range of features in the base product, easy management and almost limitless expansion possibilities.

EqualLogic PS3800XV Storage Array

EqualLogic PS3800XV Storage Array IT Pro Rating:
Price: £28,300
Review Date: 23rd Aug 2007
Verdict: This is not the cheapest 2.3TB you will every buy but don't forget that this is high speed, enterprise ready, SCSI replacement storage aimed at tier one applications. However, if you need mission critical storage to support transactional applications such as email and databases this is the solution for you.
