69 per cent of Apple's tech workers are male, 54 per cent are white

An Employer Information Report (dated July 2014) outlining the diversity profile of Apple's workforce has revealed that, of the 83 senior US employees working for the company, 60 are white men and 12 are white women.

In tech roles, Apple employees are currently 69 per cent male and 22 per cent female, as shown on the official diversity page of the company website. Of these, 54 per cent of tech workers are white, 25 per cent Asian, 8 per cent Hispanic and 7 per cent Black. This is based on data collected on June 27, 2015.

"Diversity is critical to innovation and it is essential to Apple's future," Tim Cook, Apple CEO, said in a post. "We aspire to do more than just make our company as diverse as the talent available to hire. We must address the broad underlying challenges, offer new opportunities and create a future generation of employees as diverse as the world around us. We aspire to make a difference beyond Apple."

Though the disparity between these numbers is still apparent, it is actually an improvement on figures from 2014. A year ago, 70 per cent of all Apple employees were male. This has dropped to 69 per cent in 2015, boosting women to 31 per cent.

In terms of race, the percentage of white employees has dropped from 55 per cent to 54 per cent, with the number of Asian employees rising by three per cent and black employees by one per cent.

Apple maintains that progress has been made, with 35 per cent (over 11,000) of new hires made globally in the last year being female - a 65 per cent increase on the previous year. In the US, 19 per cent of new hires were Asian, 13 per cent (2,700) were Hispanic and 11 per cent (2,200) were black.

Cook continued: "We are proud of the progress we've made, and our commitment to diversity is unwavering. But we know there is a lot more work to be done.

"Some people will read this page and see our progress. Others will recognise how much farther we have to go. We see both. And more important than these statistics, we see tens of thousands of Apple employees all over the world, speaking dozens of languages, working together. We celebrate their differences and the many benefits we and our customers enjoy as a result."
