Intel concept laptop just one seventh of an inch

Intel has released details of its Mobile Metro Notebook, a device it claims is the 'world's slimmest laptop'.
The prototype concept laptop, which is only marginally thicker than the popular, and very thin Motorola RAZR mobile phone, boasts a thickness of just 0.7 inches - just a quarter of an inch thicker than the RAZR. And at a fraction over 1kg, the device isn't going to weigh down the laptop-wielding road warrior.
The laptop boasts a full house of wireless connections, with built-in Wi-Fi, EV-DO and WiMax. There's also an external screen to take advantage of Windows Vista's Sideshow capabilities and a flash-based hard disk.
Intel claims the laptop will have an astonishing battery life of 14 hours, but unless the company also has a new battery technology up its sleeve, that figure can probably be regarded as optimistic.
Equally optimistic are the rumoured launch dates, with some sources suggesting end of this year. An Intel spokesman told IT PRO's sister title PC Pro that it's not even certain the product will make it to market.
