End2End seals SMS delivery deal with KLM

In an effort to keep passengers up-to-date with flight disruptions and services, European airline KLM has started offering SMS message flight status notifications.

The airline is working with communications specialist End2End to deliver the service to customers who have registered for the service via the KLM web site.

End2End will deliver updates on flight cancellations, delays, as well as gate changes and boarding alerts at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol via SMS.

An additional service is available for passengers to request arrival and departure information by sending an SMS including the flight number to an international virtual mobile number from End2End Connectivity. These numbers can receive SMS from nearly all countries in the world, according to the mobile messaging provider.

Vice-president of sales and marketing at End2End, Alexander Schebler said that mobile messaging was a great way to provide critical information.

"The SMS flight status notification service from KLM is a great example that mobile messaging is the ideal way to provide time critical information directly to the handset anytime and anywhere," Schebler said.

E-development manager at KLM Jan Willem ten Kate added: "We chose End2End Connectivity to benefit from the global SMS footprint reaching over 400 destinations and its high quality."
