Olympic construction site goes wireless
By Ash Dosanjh,
The Olympic Park's 2,500 acre site in Stratford, London, will have point-to-point wireless connectivity for its construction teams, thanks to a deal with CI-Net.
The wide area network specialist will develop wireless connectivity to eight 'portakabin villages' across the Olympic site, which will be used by civil engineering company Edmund Nuttall.
Using 'leased lines in the sky' RedKite technology, CI-Net will be able to provide quick-to-deploy, reliable and flexible communications links that can be tailored to the layout of the site as it develops.
RedKite is a high performance alternative to leased line and Ethernet connections. It relies on Pre-WIMAX radio signals to deliver high speed, symmetrical broadband without physical telecoms lines.
Because it does not rely on an existing fibre network it can be delivered in a matter of days rather than weeks.
CI-Net's managing director Graham McLean said that RedKite offered excellent flexibility for a site that is still undergoing change.
"By conducting a site survey and working closely with all parties involved in defining the communications requirements of the Olympic site, we were able to propose a solution that will not only meet the needs of the construction teams now, but with the flexibility to support future communication plans as the site develops."
