Novell sets up Linux netbook team

Novell is apparently setting up a dedicated research and development team to work on Linux operating systems for netbooks.

Netbook Choice has reported Novell Taiwan claimed that the team will work in conjunction with Taiwanese netbook manufacturers to develop driver programs and design interfaces to support their hardware.

It is thought that the new netbooks, featuring Novell's SUSE Linux OS, will be exhibited at the Computex Taipei event in June this year.

Markus Rex, senior vice president and general manager for open platform solutions at Novell, recently ruled out ARM-powered modules being revealed when he said: "There certainly is a lot of hype around ARM-based netbooks, [but] at the moment, we don't do anything on ARM-based devices."

Novell had not returned request for comment at the time of publishing.
