EMC World 2009: Security catalyst for cloud adoption

Security is the key to cloud computing adoption, according to an EMC executive.

Mark Lewis, president of EMC's content management and archiving division, announced at EMC World 2009 today that this is the area that will encourage enterprises towards the cloud computing model.

In relevance to his section of products, such as the recently released Source One family, Lewis said: "Our goal is helping you make all the right cloud decisions and have all the flexibility around applications but providing a way for your sensitive content to be retained and managed anyway you chose. We think this is the accelerator for the Cloud."

He continued: "There is incredible interest for continuing to store the secure private information within a more private environment, even whilst you are going to use a cloud based application."

He believes the cloud will become as "reliable as classic storage."

"Today we simply cannot be as reliable with all the separate components but when you can bring them all together in a virtual environment that is where we see it going," he said.

He concluded: "The cloud is an incredibly powerful thing that needs to be understood but don't forget about your information model."
