Western Digital unveils 1TB hard drive for laptops
Western Digital has claimed its new 1TB Scorpio Blue is the largest capacity 2.5 inch drive.
The company is releasing two new models called the WD Scorpio Blue drives, which at 12.5mm form factor make them suitable for mobile devices such as notebooks. One comes in at 750GB while the 1TB model is the highest capacity that has ever been made for a 2.5 inch drive, claimed WD.
Jim Morris, senior vice president and general manager of client systems at WD, said: "The convergence of the growing mobile computing and digital media trends produces demand for desktop-like capacities in portable devices."
The Scorpio Blue drives feature 3GB per second transfer rate along with WhisperDrive technology, making the drive incredibly quiet.
They also feature ShockGuard, to enable high shock tolerance if you dropped or bashed the drive, and SecurePark which increases reliability by ensuring the recording heads don't touch the disk surface and wear out.
Both devices are available now, with the 1TB version also available integrated into My Passport Essential USB drives from WD.
The price for the 1TB model is 205 (178) and 140 for the 750Gb version.
