Nokia wants UK developers to create next big mobile app
Mobile giant Nokia has launched mobile app development competition with a big-money prize.
Just a few weeks after Nokia announced the winners of the 2009 worldwide Calling All Innovators competition, the company has brought it back. But this time, the company is targeting developers in the UK in its search for the next big mobile app.
The winning application across five categories social location, business and productivity, communications and social networking, games, and just for fun will be published in Nokia's Ovi Store.
The creator will also receive 20,000 in cash, a ticket and paid travel to a Nokia developer event in the spring of 2010, sponsorship to become an Ovi Store publisher, and one year's membership to Forum Nokia Launchpad.
"We are looking for bold ideas from talented developers who can demonstrate a
real understanding of what UK consumers want from mobile content," Rupert Englander, Nokia's head of UK services, said in a statement.
He added: "While we are looking for apps that help personal productivity, we also want ideas that are fun and entertaining. Creating fresh ideas for applications is key in the fast-paced mobile content market and UK developers play a major role in driving forward innovation."
Submissions will be accepted until 30 November, with winners being announced by the end of the year.
