Q&A with Dell's Cary Gumbert

We met with Dell executive Cary Gumbert to find out what the company is doing in the Software as a Service (SaaS) market.

So is this something Dell with continue to invest in?

Absolutely. I think we have not been bashful about saying that you can expect more from us.

One of the key things we are doing is this technology stack is a partnership model, being able to integrate third-party applications into this.

For example, we use Symantec and McAfee for the antivirus, we are not spinning our own, and we are not going to necessarily need to own that technology. It is fairly well defined and the customers have their own preferences so we want to give them the choice. Plus, to add additional services around those sort of offers is fairly straight forward.

We don't have to necessarily acquire it, we want to build that ecosystems of technology partners that help us have more capability.
