IBM launches enterprise-level storage array
Continuing on its SSD push, IBM is releasing a new storage away featuring the much talked about technology.

IBM has released a new enterprise-level disk storage array as part of its DS8000 product line.
The System Storage DS8700 features IBM's dual Power6 processors along with device adapters that claim to deliver 150 per cent better performance.
It also incorporates solid state drives (SSDs), which IBM introduced to its DS8000 line earlier this year, as well as smart data placement promoting regularly accessed data onto high performance drives.
The company also claims that the new system is more energy efficient, with a 50 per cent increase in IOPS per watt than the previous model.
The systems are compatible with previous model's hard drives, drive enclosures, tools, scripts and copy services.
Prices for the system will start at $290,000 and shipping begins tomorrow.
