Apple updates MacBook Pro, boosts battery and performance

Apple has unveiled its latest MacBook Pros, which include Intel's Core i5 and i7 processors.

The new processors, available in the 15in and 17in versions, are believed to be capable of boosting speeds by 50 per cent. The Turbo Boost and Hyper Threading tech help boost the systems from 2.66Ghz to 3.06Ghz - and as high as 3.33Ghz for single core tasks, Apple claimed. Prices start at 1,499.

The 13in model was also updated, and now features Intel Core 2 Duo processors and Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics. Prices start at 999.

The entire lineup also boasts iPhone-style scrolling on the trackpad, which should make it easier to maneuver through large websites and documents. Apple is also promising 10 hours of battery life.

"The new MacBook Pro is as advanced on the inside as it is stunning on the outside," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, in a statement.

"With faster processors, amazing graphics and up to three more hours of battery life, the new MacBook Pro delivers both performance and efficiency."

The new MacBook Pros are available to order now.

It's been a busy few weeks for Apple, with last week's unveiling of iPhone OS 4.0 and the arrival of the iPad.
