IBM ramps up security software solutions

IBM is looking to help companies build security into the system development phase with its new software launches.

Security

IBM has launched a host of new software solutions as part of its Secure by Design initiative, aimed at weaving security into businesses' infrastructure.

One addition is Big Blue's new AppScan Source Edition, a product born out of the recent Ounce Labs acquisition.

The software enables firms to bring in security analysis during the development period of applications, including coding and production. In doing so, vulnerabilities can be located at an early stage. Just simply adding on security on once systems have been implemented is no longer effective, according to IBM.

An Application Source Code Security Assessment has also been launched by IBM, providing a baseline analysis of an application's source code, thereby encouraging the implementation of security in the software development lifecycle. Big Blue's consultants will test applications for customers and pick out any potential security holes before offering recommendations on how to fix the vulnerabilities.

IBM has also introduced updates for the Tivoli Access Manager, which will enable users to centrally manage access to critical data and applications across new service delivery platforms, such as cloud computing. Big Blue promised that access remains fast and convenient with the updated service.

"Each day, we are seeing the emergence and adoption of new technologies and business models," said Al Zollar, general manager of IBM Tivoli Software, in a statement.

"It is the organisations that learn how to effectively manage security risk that will be the ones that become successful in this environment. By introducing these new software and service offerings, IBM is helping to ensure that security is woven into the very fabric of an organisation's infrastructure," he added.
