McAfee breaks into Mac security sphere

Mac

McAfee has entered the Mac security market, claiming to offer the strongest protection out there for the Apple-based systems.

Available from this week, McAfee Internet Security for Mac offers SiteAdvisor technology designed to protect users from dangers like phishing, malicious sites and browser exploits.

When shopping, users will be notified which sites have been scanned by McAfee for possible security holes, while two-way firewall protection looks at all data going to and from the Mac, blocking hackers from compromising the system.

"McAfee Internet Security suite helps Apple users confidently live their digital lives," said Todd Gebhart, executive vice president and general manager for consumer, mobile and small business at McAfee.

"It will protect Mac users from the growing threats users experience while searching the internet every day."

The solution has been made available on Mac OS 10.5 or later, across 10 countries, including the UK.

McAfee has also introduced Family Protection for Mac in the UK, the US and Australia.
