Virgin boosts XL broadband package by 50 per cent

Broadband connections

Customers signed up to Virgin Media's XL broadband package will now get a speed boost of 50 per cent as their offering moves from 20Mbps to 30Mbps - at no extra cost.

The new speedy service is available immediately and is in response to the proliferation of smartphones and mobile devices used by modern day business users and consumers alike, according to Virgin.

Furthermore, the communications giant, says the technology behind the connectivity will ensure users get as close to - 90 per cent-plus - advertised speeds as possible, rather than facing a so-called 'speed lottery.'

"As consumers continually demand more and more from their broadband, the unique power of our next-generation network means that we're able to turn up the dial to meet their needs," said

Jon James, Virgin Media's executive director of broadband.

"With so many devices connecting to the internet at home these days, our new 30Mb service will give Virgin Media families that extra boost needed to make everything run smoothly, with speeds that don't slow down depending on where you live."

Those already using Virgin's XL 20Mbps service are able to upgrade to the new, higher speed by paying a one-off fee of 30. This will cover the costs involved with modem replacement and activation.
