McAfee unveils London cloud data centre

The security firm has announced its fifth cloud data centre opening within a year in England’s capital city.

Cloud security

McAfee is expanding its presence in the cloud computing market with the opening of a new data centre in London.

The cloud data centre is the fifth the company has unveiled the past year alone but its first in the UK.

Its focus will be on providing McAfee's software as a service (SaaS) offerings for both web and email security.

Scott Chasin, chief technology officer for McAfee's cloud and content division, said: "The rapid expansion of cloud data centres over the past year underscores our commitment to our customers and partners to deliver the highest-grade, global cloud security footprint."

The new data centre will be backed up to another facility within Europe, as well as providing back up for its counterpart. McAfee has also ensured it will use multiple ISPs for connectivity, ensuring the locations are not reliant on one provider.

Physical security has also played a major part in the design of the new data centre, with biometric scanners controlling staff access, 24 hour CCTV and early fire detection systems.

Although the company has already launched five new locations in the past year, it confirmed another new cloud data centre in Hong Kong was set to go live in a matter of weeks.

McAfee was recently acquired by Intel in a $7.68 billion deal, finalised on 1 March this year.
