Blue Coat to offer cloud, web and mobile security

A new product aims itself at businesses looking to extend their networks into the cloud.

Blue Coat has announced a web-based security product, enabling enterprises to protect their assets whether they are in the cloud, in the data centre or on a mobile device.

The Unified Security solution provides global threat defence capabilities, protecting a business from external attacks, but also provides universal policy and reporting features.

This means if a firm wants to extend their network into the cloud - to take advantage of extra storage or compute resources or enable their employees to access corporate data on their mobile devices, the same security policies will be put in place as if they were in the office, with administrators being able to track any threats.

The reporting also offers a "single pane of glass" for viewing all user activity and threats to the network, keeping the IT department in the know.

Blue Coat claims these added features enable businesses to be flexible with their workers, whether it is employees who want to stay at home, work on the move or work in branch offices, whilst also keeping security at a premium.

"The growing adoption of mobile devices gives employees maximum access to the corporate network with little of the protection they get within the four walls of the enterprise," said Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer (CMO) and senior vice president of corporate and business development at Blue Coat.

"This fundamental transition requires enterprises to shift from securing the network to securing the user by extending corporate security and compliance policies to all devices accessing the network."

Blue Coat also believes by being web-based, Unified Security can deliver real-time monitoring of new threats emerging online, keeping user security as up-to-date as possible.
