Adobe launches Creative Cloud

New cloud-based tools lets subscribers access new CS6 applications and other Adobe products.

cloud computing

Software company Adobe has launched its new Adobe Creative Cloud, which allows creative types to use products from its Creative Suite 6 (CS6) on a monthly or yearly subscription instead of purchasing the software outright in a shrink-wrapped box.

Users of the service will also be able to download programs such as Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator, store their work in the cloud and share files with others.

One of the biggest selling points is the ability to download new updates from the cloud before regular software purchasers.

The move by the software company is a bid to make revenue growth more predictable, while dodging shortfalls in sales that happen between updates to its Creative Suite package.

One of the biggest selling points is the ability to download new updates from the cloud before regular software purchasers. Creative Cloud subscribers receive ongoing updates to Creative Suite applications before they launched as as part of major CS updates, as well as other new products and services as they emerge, such as Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4, Adobe Edge; and Digital Publishing Suite Single Edition, which allows the publication of digital magazines on iPad.

Adobe Creative Cloud publishing services features apps, magazines and catalogues piublishing to mobile devices, such as iPad, iPhone and Android. Members also have access to Adobe Typekit.

A new desktop app, Adobe Creative Cloud Connection, enables the syncing, sharing and storing of files across mobile devices and desktop. Creative Cloud membership includes up to 20GB of cloud storage, with additional storage purchase options coming soon, according to the company.

Membership of the cloud-based service is 38.11 ex VAT per month, with an annual contract. A special introductory offer of 22.23 ex VAT per month for CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS5.5 individual customers is also available.
