IT training body launches online skills portal
National Skills Academy for IT takes wraps off online IT pro portal to help private and public sector firms recruit staff.
The National Skills Academy for IT has teamed up with a slew of private sector companies to provide IT professionals with an online profile where they can showcase their skills.
The IT Professional Profile service will allow members of the industry to benchmark their skills against their contemporaries, find training opportunities and bag qualifications that could help them progress in their career.
Graduate hiring is extremely important to us.
The online tool has won the backing of hardware giant HP, John Lewis, the Metropolitan Police, Royal Mail, Tata Consultancy Services and O2, and is already being used during the IT staff recruitment process.
The IT Professional Profile can be used by employers who use the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) to administer a detailed response about relevant capabilities, knowledge and skills, and then link to appropriate training and qualifications.
Karen Price, chief executive of e-skills UK welcomed the launch of the initiative.
"It will not only enable employers to save time and money, but will also help individuals to achieve their ambitions, and help us to establish the professionalism that will attract more talent into the sector," said Price.
IT service provider Tata Consultancy Services said it will be asking prospective graduate trainees to use the tool when applying for jobs.
Vishal Gandhi, talent acquisition head for the UK and Ireland at Tata, explained: "Graduate hiring is extremely important to us, yet it could be difficult for us to understand whether a new graduate has the right skills for the job.
"The IT Professional Profile will enable us to identify this and bridge the gaps," Gandhi added.
