Cloud management required for maximum ROI, claims Bluewolf

Research reveals cloud projects are stalling due to lack of ongoing oversight.

cloud in hands

Up to 80 per cent of companies are not achieving maximum ROI from cloud due to a lack of cloud governance' strategy.

So claims the a report entitled The State of Salesforce 2012-2013 Annual Review, which was carried out by consultancy Bluewolf and surveyed 300 global users of CRM software-as-a-service provider Salesforce to find out the main challenges they currently face with regard to cloud technologies.

Sue Goble, general manager, of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and international at Bluewolf told Cloud Pro the reason companies were not getting the best from their cloud solutions in terms of ROI is they are not being managed in an ongoing way.

"Business does not stand still ... they release new products, change their organisations and work in different ways. [At the same time], cloud providers are creating lots of new functionality that gets released really regularly quarter by quarter there are new features and functions becoming available and new things that the business can do," Goble said.

The problem comes when the cloud project stops at the point where it went live, whereas it should be just the first of many steps, Goble added. With the right cloud governance in place, the technology's implementation can be moulded in tandem with the business' needs. However, this is where a lot of the ongoing management of the system is missing, according to Goble.

"CRM and implementing these types of solutions is a journey and it is more than just the physical implementation of the systems it is about ... putting in place the kind of adoption programmes that are going to make the absolute best of that system and ... thinking about all the supporting pieces around it," Goble added.
