Google launches dedicated mobile app for Gmail
The search giant's new application aims to make life easier for users wanting to read and send emails while on the move
Google has created a downloadable application that it claims will revolutionise the way people experience email on their mobile phones.
Gmail for mobile devices was created by the search giant's development team to try and create a version of its popular email service that was as familiar and easy to use as the desktop offering.
Users can already log into their Gmail accounts using their mobile phones, but this new application, which makes use of automatic message pre fetching, will make it around five times faster to access and use, according to the company.
The application will also automatically resize attachments, such as files and photos, to optimise them for the device's screen, in addition to requiring less clicking and scrolling. It runs on a myriad of Java-enabled devices, numbering in the hundreds.
"Google's mobile products are designed to enable people to quickly and easily get the information they want on the go," said Deep Nishar, director of product management at Google.
