Firefox for Android beta introduces more customisation
A new Firefox for Android beta has been released with brand new customisation and personalisation features for users
Firefox users now have much more control of their web experience on Android phones, thanks to a new beta that brings with it a set of new personalisation and customisation features.
Mozilla announced the arrival of the Firefox for Android beta in a blog post, claiming it will offer not only greater customisation options for users, but more APIs for developers too.
Users will now be able to make their home screen display content from different websites and feeds, including Instagram, Pocket, Vimeo and Wikipedia, with addition options to come. These home screen pages will allow the web browser to be customised to suit each user, with the option to choose, re-order and hide content from the app when opened.
Developers too will benefit from the new browser. They'll have more opportunity to create add-ons for Firefox on Android, which will take pride of place on the home screen. This could lead drove up use of certain add-ons, with users seeing their favourite features as soon as they open up Firefox on their device.
In addition to these new features, Mozilla also announced that the beta will introduce a way to more easily switch between languages while browsing. Previously, multi-lingual users would have to restart their browsers, but now they can switch between the 54 languages on offer from inside the app.
Users are being urged to download and test these two new features before they are rolled out officially.
"Help us test this new home screen experience and our new language switching feature from today. Please remember to share your feedback and file any bugs as we continue to improve performance and features for our users," Mozilla said.
