Global specialist network provider 01 Telecom Limited (01T) and connectivity and network infrastructure firm Connected Enterprise Limited (CXS) have announced the merger of both organisations under the 01T brand.

Combining in their entirety from the new year onwards, 01T said the move will enable the freshly bolstered business to realise its ambition of rewriting the rules of international connectivity.

CXS will bring outstanding technical competence, a strong UK data centre footprint and a growing channel offering – all of which will help provide a "strong synergy" between the pair, the firm added.

Alex Lower, CEO of 01T, said the merger offers the combined business the platform to become the "natural place" for businesses to exchange data across international boundaries.

"As the demand for robust, high capacity global network connectivity continues to skyrocket, and the value of infrastructure and data centre grows, reach and service has never been more important," he said.

"This merger provides us with the platform to realise our vision of bringing the world on-net and becoming the natural place for businesses to exchange data across international boundaries. I am exceptionally excited to bring the two teams together and re-write the rules of international network connectivity.

Lower will continue to lead the organisation post-merger as CEO while leading beside him will be Daniel Deak as COO, Tobias Hooton as CTO, and Kenneth Runcorn as CFO.

The combined business will launch the Global Network Exchange (GNX) in 2021, which it says will bring 103 countries on-net, complete with 100Gbps ports as standard.

"GNX is a purpose-built international connectivity network, leveraging and building upon our existing high capacity carrier infrastructure," said Hooton.

"GNX will enable our customers and partners to connect to the services, platforms and content they need to, anywhere in the world. We are perfectly positioned to launch this new carrier network, and forge our names on the international connectivity stage."

The extended company has also received a private equity investment from UK investment firm TECHNEDs LLP, which sees Iain McKenzie and Simon Mewett join as non-executive directors, with the former becoming the group chairman, 01T confirmed.
