Tinder’s relationship with Rackspace underpins your casual flirting

Dating app picks Rackspace’s database-as-a-service to support swiping activity

Casual dating app Tinder has found a long-term partner in Rackspace to support its infamous swiping activity.

The cloud company's database-as-a-service platform, ObjectRocket, now supports 1.7 billion left and right swipes a day as picky users express their opinion on the profiles of potential dates, with 25 million hooking up daily.

Tinder's latest relationship has quadrupled its app's performance and stability, while Rackspace's cloud infrastructure services also bolster Tinder's 40-strong IT team.

By carrying out routine database management and 24/7 monitoring, Rackspace is freeing up Tinder staff to innovate, too.

"ObjectRocket by Rackspace is the fastest, most reliable MongoDB offering that we've ever tried, and with Fanatical Support and Rackspace Managed Cloud, we can rest assured knowing that we always have a team of dedicated experts on our side, operating as an extension of our in-house team," Tinder CTO Ryan Ogle said. "With such a popular, fast-growing app, this type of scalability and support is crucial for the success of our business."

John Engates, CTO of Rackspace, added that as the amount of data collected by businesses grows, it becomes harder to scale. "With ObjectRocket, Tinder leverages Rackspace's economies of expertise in the data space so they can avoid the cost and burden of managing their data themselves," he said. "This way, Tinder can focus on performing at scale and continuing to innovate to connect more people around the globe."
