McAfee completes Skyhigh acquisition

The two companies can offer a complete end-to-end cloud security solution for businesses and service providers

McAfee has completed the acquisition of Skyhigh Networks, which will now be integrated into the McAfee Cloud Security Business Unit, offering extensive expertise on cloud-based threat management.

The company explained buying the cloud security business means it can take advantage of the cloud access security broker (CASB) market, pioneered by Skyhigh Networks to offer customers a multi-cloud protection solution. The offering covers visibility into networks, workloads and data, advanced threat protection and pervasive data protection to ensure businesses are covered across the entire cloud, whatever services and providers they're using.

"Today's announcement marks a new milestone for the future of our company," said Chris Young, CEO of McAfee. "With two industry leaders coming together under one company, we will make cybersecurity an enabler to the transformative power of our digital age. We are focused on securing customers from their devices to the cloud, giving customers access to market-leading capabilities in the architectural control points that matter most."

McAfee explained the customer base for such a solution is huge. According to its 2017 cloud adoption and security report, 93% of businesses use at least one cloud service and offering the combined expertise of McAfee and Skyhigh Networks mean customers can take advantage of the full suite of services including Skyhigh Security Cloud, McAfee Cloud Workload Security and McAfee Virtual Network Security Platform.

"McAfee's acquisition of Skyhigh Networks brings two security leaders together," said Ivaylo Uzunov, manager of information security at Carlson Wagonlit Travel. "The integration of their security offerings will provide a holistic data visibility and control for cloud applications, while preserving policy enforcement and compliance."
