HPE reveals new CTO role and restructure for post-coronavirus world

Leaders of HPE's seven largest business groups will now report directly to CEO Neri

HPE has announced a new organisational structure as the technology giant prepares itself for a “post COVID-19 world” and continues its transition to an "as a service” business.

The changes include HPE senior vice president Kumar Sreekanti becoming the firm’s CTO alongside his head of software role, as well as the introduction of a new GreenLake Cloud Services Business Group.

Announcing the reshuffle in a blog post, CEO Antonio Neri also revealed that the leaders of HPE’s seven largest business groups, as well as some of its sales team leaders, will now report directly to him.

Neri said the changes align with the company’s ongoing transition to a software-based business, accelerating its pivot to becoming “the edge-to-cloud platform as a service company”.

“Over recent weeks, I have evaluated our organizational structure to determine the model that will best enable our execution and transformation,” Neri commented. “The time is right for an organisation where each one of our business groups, aligned to market trends and our own financial segmentation, directly reports to me.”

From this summer, Kumar Sreekanti will take on the freshly-created dual role of CTO and head of software, replacing retiring CTO Mark Potter. Previously co-founder and CEO of the now-HPE-owned data software firm BlueData, Sreekanti will oversee the firm’s realigned innovation and software-defined portfolio vision.

“I have created a new dual role that embraces our innovation agenda and the design and development of HPE’s software defined portfolio,” Neri explained. “Software plays a foundational strategic role in enabling our edge-to-cloud platform-as-a-service strategy and I am excited to have Kumar drive the innovation agenda and technology roadmap for HPE that integrates the strategy, design and development for the HPE software defined portfolio.”

HPE has also established a new GreenLake Cloud Services Business Group, which will be fronted by former Microsoft cloud specialist Keith White. White joined the business back in December of last year from the Redmond giant, where he is widely credited with driving with driving Azure’s strong sales growth.

"This team will provide customers with a consistent cloud experience for all of their applications and data wherever they live: at the edge, across public and private clouds, in co-locations, or in the data centre consumed through a flexible, pay-as-you-go model,” Neri explained.
