Mercedes heads to the cloud as Daimler expands IBM agreement
Moving to the IBM public cloud offers Daimler an opportunity for scaling and improved security
The move is expected to help Daimler facilitate innovation and scaling for the future. The company will migrate its after-sales portal to the cloud, which will allow the auto company to add new products and offerings quickly to its customers.
The IBM Cloud is also known for top-level security measures, such as IBM Hyper Protect Services, and the ability to encrypt sensitive company data to protect it from hackers.
This is an important feature as more and more cyber criminals are attacking large companies with ransomware. Another auto industry, Honda, suffered a ransomware attack in early June.
Howard Boville, senior vice president at IBM Cloud, said: “As organizations redefine their operations by adopting public cloud, they're able to drive innovation and modernize their infrastructures, while still prioritizing security.

The migration to cloud-based services has grown significantly over recent months as the world works remotely during the coronavirus pandemic.
For Daimler, scalability and security were foremost characteristics that won it over to the IBM Cloud. Not all cloud services are right for every business, but asking the right questions can help find the right cloud service for any business.
