IBM targets hybrid cloud environments with expanded Security Services for Cloud

New services will help enterprises adopt a unified security approach across cloud and on-premise systems

IBM has unveiled a suite of new and enhanced services to help organizations manage their cloud security strategy, policies, and controls across hybrid cloud environments.

Available within IBM Security Services for Cloud, the services will enable enterprises to adopt a consistent and unified security approach across IBM, cloud-native, and third-party technology ecosystems.

“Cloud security can appear daunting, with defenders facing an expansive attack surface, shared responsibility models and rapidly evolving cloud platforms and tools," said Vikram Chhabra, global director of offering management and strategy at IBM Security Services.

"We cannot assume that legacy approaches for security will work in this new operating model – instead, security should be modernized specifically for the hybrid cloud era, with a strategy based on zero trust principles that bring together context, collaboration and visibility across any cloud environment."

IBM Security Services for Cloud also features built-in artificial intelligence (AI) and automation capabilities, allowing enterprises to identify and prioritize risks, and respond to potential threats across cloud environments. Additionally, the platform connects intelligent data with broader security operations and on-premises systems.

“The services can support clients in any stage of their cloud security journey; from advising organizations on how to move data, users and workloads to the cloud, to providing continual risk monitoring and threat management of their existing hybrid cloud architecture,” said IBM.

Enhanced IBM Security Services for Cloud’s notable features include advisory and managed security support for reducing the risk of cloud misconfigurations; cloud security posture management (CSPM) solution to address governance and compliance across cloud service providers; security for clients' container environments; and recommendations to manage risks and vulnerabilities.

Seamlessly integrated with IBM Security X-Force Red vulnerability management solution, the platform can also identify, analyze, and rank thousands of container-related vulnerabilities within client environments.
