Nutanix has announced several enhancements to its cloud platform to address enterprises’ data storage needs.

Most notably, Nutanix Cloud Platform now supports unstructured data tiering between on-premises and the cloud, with up to a two-fold increase in database storage performance and a three-fold increase in big data performance.

Data processing speeds are up to three times faster with the platform's new replication factor storage mode. Integrated Intel Optane technology and Nutanix's preferential data placement further reduce latency in storage.

Nutanix Objects, Nutanix’s S3-compatible object storage solution, now supports high-performance petabyte-scale storage for building data lakes. Improvements to Nutanix Era include one-click storage scaling and rich role-based access control for database management across hybrid multi-cloud environments.

“Customers require a variety of ways to store data—both structured and unstructured—and are looking for ways to simplify management without needing to rely on different vendors to do so,” said Rajiv Mirani, Nutanix CTO.

Mirani added, “The new features in the Nutanix Cloud Platform extend our data-centric innovation to high-performance applications to deliver a unified platform with comprehensive data services for all workloads and all variety of data.”

Through 1-min Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and self-service restore, customers can conveniently recover lost Nutanix Files.

The firm also announced its new unstructured data governance service Nutanix Data Lens. In addition to providing a global view into unstructured data stored on Nutanix unified storage, Nutanix Data Lens helps customers thwart ransomware attacks by detecting malicious files and automating alerts for suspicious activity.

“Enterprises are looking for ways to more efficiently and securely manage the rapid growth of size, velocity, and variety of data, as well as simplify the operations across on-premises and cloud,” said Eric Burgener, research vice president of infrastructure systems, platforms and technologies group at IDC.

“Nutanix is taking important steps to deliver comprehensive data services across both structured and unstructured data on a single platform with a common management interface that stretches across on-premises and cloud.”
