FoKo extends "Instagram for enterprise" to the desktop
A desktop version of enterprise photo sharing app FoKo is now available for businesses
FoKo, the enterprise photo sharing app, has launched a desktop version of its private sharing app that can be used on larger screens and to distribute desktop-only files, such as CAD drawings.
The FoKo mobile app functions as, essentially, a private version of Instagram that can be used to share images on a network of employees within a particular company, from individuals and limited groups. After signing up for the service with a company email, employees are immediately able to share with anyone else using the same domain.
While FoKo is already available for mobile use, a new desktop extension of the app has been announced and will allow users to view and share pictures from their computers.
This allows viewing of shared files on a larger screen as well as giving users the ability to share files only available on the desktop. This extension, however, does not function on its own and requires the user to already have the app on their phone.
Co-founder of the app, Eric Suave, told TechCrunch FoKo has proven very popular in visually-orientated industries such as retail, along with those in customer service roles or HR positions to share images of company events or workspaces.
The release comes with some updates, such as the ability for users to share with others in their address book, meaning they can now send images to clients and contacts as well as others within the same company. Users can comment on shared images, but the app has so far not attempted to add the additional functions included in many other enterprise social apps.
