Microsoft unveils business-exclusive Surface Pro 7 Plus
The refreshed Surface Pro features a removable SSD with up to 1TB of storage and optional 4G support
Improving on last year’s Surface Pro 7, the new Plus-branded variant boasts Intel’s latest 11th-generation Tiger Lake processors, optional LTE connectivity, and a removable SSD with up to 1TB of storage.
This, Microsoft claims, will help organisations to comply with specific data retention standards, while also making it possible to replace the storage in the event of an “unlikely” SSD failure.
The device also up to 15 hours of battery life, which is almost a third more than the original Surface Pro 7, with Microsoft increasing the battery capacity from 46.5Wh to 50.4Wh.
What is most interesting, however, is that the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Plus will be made available exclusively for businesses and educators and can be personalised with required apps and policies before it is shipped to users.
The device can be connected to additional monitors using its USB-C port or the optional Surface Dock 2. These are both capable of supporting two external displays with up to a 4K resolution, making it possible for users to adjust and personalise their home office workstation.
The device also promises an enhanced collaboration experience for those working remotely, thanks to its Dolby Atmos audio, dual far-field Studio Mics, and 5MP front-facing camera.
The Surface Pro 7 Plus also comes with a rear-facing 8MP HD camera, suitable for scanning documents or, in the case of the education sector, capturing whiteboard notes.
What might be seen as an issue, however, is the Surface Pro 7 Plus’ lack of 5G connectivity. This is due to Microsoft opting to use the older Snapdragon X20 LTE modem as opposed to Qualcomm’s more recent offerings.
With prices ranging from £909 to £2,759, customers can select the ideal RAM and SSD storage for their needs, as well as choose between Intel’s i3, i5, or i7 11th Gen processors.
