Apple announces 'Spring Loaded' hardware event for 20 April

This is the company’s spring event where it could announce its new iPad Pro lineup and AirTags

Apple has confirmed that its spring hardware event will take place on 20 April at Apple Park in California.

The event, which Apple has called “Spring Loaded”, will kick off at 10am PT (6pm BST) and will be held virtually, which means it will be available for anyone to watch online for free.

The company made the announcement on its website although some users found out earlier when they asked Siri when the event was going to take place. The digital assistant responded: "The special event is on Tuesday, April 20, at Apple Park in Cupertino, CA. You can get all the details on Apple.com."

The event already has its own hashtag on Twitter, where if you type #AppleEvent the logo will appear in the tweet.

The logo of the event appears to be the Apple logo in the form of a spring. However, it is also reminiscent of Apple’s Macintosh ad from the 1980s where the screen displays “hello”. This could mean that the company is set to announce a new or updated iMac which is why it is referencing these roots.

There are rumours of a number of other devices that could be announced at the event including new AirPods and AirTags, a tracker that you can fix to things, like keys, to allow you to find them easily with your Apple device.

Apple is also expected to announce its latest iPad Pro models. This could potentially include the new 12.9 iPad Pro with mini-LED display technology as well as two other updated iPad Pro tablets that will reportedly be available in two different sizes. This is despite the fact that component shortages are said to be affecting the production of the mini-LED displays.

This isn’t the only event Apple has planned for the first half of the year, as the tech giant’s online-only WWDC 2021 is set to kick off from 7 June. This is where the company will reveal its future plans and updates for its iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS operating systems.
