HP Inc's chief of Personal Systems, Ron Coughlin, has left the PC vendor, with the company appointing an internal successor.

Coughlin has served as president of Personal Systems since October 2014, and most recently delivered 15% year-on-year revenue growth for the division in January, hitting $9.4 billion for the quarter.

He joined HP as an SVP of sales, strategy and marketing in July 2007, before becoming general manager of the giant's laserjet business in 2009 and then put in charge of consumer PCs in 2012, which he ran until HP's split.

Coughlin is leaving HP Inc to join PetCo Animal Supplies as CEO.

"I am grateful to Ron for his steady leadership and countless contributions to HP," HP Inc CEO Dion Weisler said. "The team and the capabilities Ron has built will benefit our business for years to come. We wish him the very best as he begins a new chapter in his career."

Weisler announced Coughlin's successor as Alex Cho, who joined HP in 1995 and has led the business's commercial PC division as VP and general manager since 2014. Most recently he has overseen four consecutive quarters of double digit growth.

"Alex is uniquely qualified to lead Personal Systems into its next phase of reinvention," said Weisler.

"He brings deep business, product and security experience and a long track record of success to the role and will continue our focus on creating customer experiences that amaze."
