Microsoft's next-generation Surface Laptop will reportedly be made available in both AMD and Intel configurations.

The Surface Laptop family is one of Microsoft's most successful hardware ranges, offering a series of slim, sleek ultra-portable laptops that compete with the MacBook Air, Dell XPS, and more.

The fourth-generation Surface Laptop is reportedly due to come out in the spring, and the German tech site WinFuture has the scoop on some details.

The biggest news is that all Surface Laptop 4 models will reportedly be made available with a choice of AMD or Intel chips. In the current Surface Laptop 3 lineup, the 13.5in model comes exclusively with Intel chips, while the 15in model is available only with AMD chips.

According to WinFuture, the AMD models will include Ryzen 4000-series processors, while the Intel models will feature the latest 11th-generation Intel Core processors.

Beyond that, the Surface Laptop’s design will change very little, as it’ll reportedly maintain its sleek, simple, and minimalist look.

WinFuture also claimed all Surface Laptop 4 models would have 8GB or 16GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of SSD storage. There will also be an Intel model available with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage, according to the report.

AMD continues making serious gains in the chip market and its overall revenue for 2020 was up 45%. It had a strong finish to 2020, as its server and chip business recorded a 176% annual revenue increase in the final quarter of 2020.
